Project Title: Operationalising diversity in datasets for healthcare artificial
intelligence
Summary: This empirical ethics project is a preliminary examination of the ethical and practical issues raised by operationalising diversity in datasets to mitigate algorithmic bias in artificial intelligence for healthcare applications. First, it involves systematically analysing policies and procedures on the collection of complex social identities involving race, gender, social class and disability. Second, the project will develop and test questionnaires to gather perspectives of experts about the challenges of and strategies to operationalise diversity of datasets. Third, the project will pilot a data science experiment to track the impart of race, gender, disability and/or class data on algorithmic bias.
